Perverts and Bigots

The North East of Scotland does not have a large number residents from ethnic minorities. Far from it in fact. They say that ignorance breeds predjudice. Unfortunately, the people of the North East tend to prove that they are right.

The owner/editor of a free weekly newspaper in Peterhead (just up the coast) faces charges of incitement to racial hatred after writing an article headlined "Perverts & Refugees". The article suggests that a large refugee centre, holding up to 5,000, is to be built in the North East because the government faces strong opposition to them in England.

The reason that the people of rural England have reject (sic) this is that they know their communities would be turned into ghettos where murder, rape, robbery, assault, break-ins and numerous other crimes became prevalent.

I presume that's because refugees will have dark skin and dark skinned people are all uncivilized animals with a complete disregard for law and order. At least I presume that's what Mr Buchan thinks.

Strangely enough, Peterhead is not an idylic little fishing town. It's known as the heroin capital of Scotland.* Stories like these are not uncommon. It is a community where it's best not to walk alone at night. These problems are caused by white people who've been born and brought up in the town. Sadly, it's well on it's way to becoming a ghetto without any help from those barbaric refugees.

But as far as the refugee centre goes, according to the P&J (site seems to be down, may add link later):

Mr Buchan's paper... claimed wrongly that a 5000-capacity complex for immigrants was being planned for the Peterhead area.

It doesn't go. It's not actually going to happen. Personally, I'd rather it did. Perhaps an influx of immigrants would be a civilizing influence on the area.

*I feel I should point out that Aberdeen isn't much better when it comes to such things.
