New Labour's reaction to the arrest of Ruth Turner has been quite something. These are the very same people who constantly argue that the police should be trusted with more summary powers.

Ruth Turner was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. It's an imprisonable offence. As such, the police had the right to take a sample of her DNA and store a record of it on their DNA database. Because of the arrest, the police now have the authority store her DNA on the database permanently even if she is never charged with any offence.

I wonder if they did?

They will. Maybe if it was the home office or something but the Police at the coalface would make a big deal of it.

It is not fair to arrest a decent, god fearing, upper class young lady like her, even if she has committed criminal offences. It's not the same as if it was somebody like the lawless bint who threw a cheesy wotsit out her car window, or the guy who mistakely put an envelope in his wrong recycling box and ended up with a criminal record. Have a sense of proportion here. I bet she pees lavender water.

So if she's not guilty of 'any wrongdoing of any nature whatsoever' - then she has never done anything wrong? This woman is something special - I'm calling for her to be immediately considered for sainthood. All those in favour - sign my petition here
